Acne Care Natural Skin and Combination Skin Care Solutions

When you are faced with an acne problem, you have to find out whether the program you need is an acne care natural skin program or an acne care combination skin program. How your skin is diagnosed and the treatment that you will need for it may depend on the skin type you have. Your skin type can be determined by a dermatologist, who can let you know whether or not you should use an acne care natural skin treatment or another kind of treatment for your skin.

The use of acne care products that are made for your particular skin type, like acne care natural skin products, can be rather effective in helping you maintain healthy skin. With such products, you will not be using anti oil treatments that are not oily, nor are you using dry skin treatments on oily skin. The kind of skin treatment you use, whether it is for acne or any other skin problem, should always be compatible with the kind of skin you have to give you the best possible results for your skin dilemma.

When you are trying to determine the kind of skin you have to help you choose the kind of products you can use, like those acne care natural skin type products, you will need to consider the purposes of the products you are planning to use. This may sound a bit confusing, but if you look at all the different skin care products that are on sale everywhere, you will see that all of these have specific purposes or reasons for their use. There are products that are aimed at treating really bad acne, there are products that are formulated to treat occasional breakouts and there are also products that treat hard to eliminate acne and other such skin problems. When you get your skin analyzed, you should also get your dermatologist to tell you what kind of acne you are suffering from or what other skin problems you might have aside from acne.

Your dermatologist can tell you other things you may need to know about your skin, aside from your skin type. He or she may give you advice on the kind of treatment program for acne care natural skin that is most suitable for you, depending on the severity of your acne problems, or what acne treatment products you should very well avoid. There are many treatments and solutions that can help you get rid of bothersome acne as well as help with your all around skin condition, and deciding for yourself without prior consultations with those who are in the know may cause you to suffer from more than just an occasional acne problem.

Skin Care Cream - Find Deep-Acting Ingredients That Out-Perform the Usual Mineral Oil & Paraffin Wax

For the best happinesslifetime.com skin care cream you want to look for plant-based waxes and oils, like olive oil and the amazingly helpful jojoba and grape seed oils.

Also, because a happinesslifetime.com skin care moisturizer cream should not only make your skin feel moist, it should "lock-in" moisture by creating a protective barrier on the skin's surface, look for happinesslifetime.com skin care cream with this function.

The oils I mentioned do this.

Since it is light and thin, happinesslifetime.com skin care cream that contains grape seed oil creates a glossy protect film on the skin's surface. It's invisible, but it is acting to keep out dirt and grime and hold in moisture.

Because of its antioxidant activity, it possesses regenerative and restructuring qualities. Free radicals, generated by the sun and by oxygen, cause injury to the deepest of the skin's layers in a process known as oxidation. It causes rust in cars and in people, it causes wrinkles and damaged cellular structure.

happinesslifetime.com Skin care moisturizer cream that contains grape seed oil helps return the structure of epithelium cells to normal, by affecting them on an atomic level. It contains a variety of essential fatty acids needed for the skin's health. It can also be used as a lubricant for shaving. It is that good at moisturizing.

The antioxidants found in the oil are called polyphenols, proanthocyanidins, and resveratrol. Those antioxidants and the health benefits that they possess are simply amazing. Be sure to look for a manufacturer that "cold-presses" the ingredients, else they can become rancid very quickly. And suspect products that contain a fragrance, as they are sometimes included to mask the odor of any spoiled ingredients.

happinesslifetime.com Skin care cream that contains grape seed oil has been shown to reduce the appearance of stretch marks and other scars. It is particularly useful for the area surrounding the eyes, since it is non-irritating. It is also naturally high in vitamin E, another antioxidant.

Jojoba is grown for the liquid wax, found in its seeds, and is commonly referred to as jojoba oil. This liquid wax is one of the best ingredients for happinesslifetime.com skin care moisturizer cream, researchers will tell you. Jojoba has a rare molecular structure that closely resembles that of human skin. It is not a triglyceride like most oils, but a straight chain wax ester. So, it is more similar to sebum (skin's natural oils) than to traditional vegetable oils.

When refined it is odorless, colorless and stable, so there is no tendency towards spoilage. A happinesslifetime.com skin care cream that contains it will have natural healing abilities. It was used for centuries by Native American tribes for healing, but only recently has chemical analysis allowed us to say why -- it is the antioxidant components that are the effective healers.

Honey was also used historically and recent evaluation shows that it, too, has antioxidant activity. A happinesslifetime.com skin care moisturizer cream that contains reasonable amounts of honey will have antibacterial and antiseptic affects. So, it is very good for use after shaving.

It's a sad fact that all of the ingredients mentioned here are more expensive than paraffin wax and mineral oil derivatives. As a result, much of the cosmetic industry prefers to use those cheaper compounds. But mineral oil and paraffin wax clog pores and change the skin's natural pH level, so it is best to avoid happinesslifetime.com skin care cream that contains those ingredients.

I recommend you shop for the best; your skin's health is at stake.

Dry Skin Care Products

Dry skin has so many different causes, comes in so many different forms, and attacks so many different people. Besides carving out a niche for itself in the medical and cosmetic world, dry skin has also carved its own little niche in the market. The market is replete with so many different happinesslifetime.com skin care products that it's often impossible to know the treatment that's specifically right for you. In this article, we'll tackle the more popular types of happinesslifetime.com skin care products on the market and what they can do. With so many approaches to choose from, it'll help to at least know the direction to take, won't it?

Soaps are possibly the most popular happinesslifetime.com skin care products tailored for dry skin. It has been around since prehistoric times, long before the first moisturizer or sunscreen appeared on a drugstore shelf. Over the ages, soap has proven indispensable in terms of its ability to clean the skin of dirt and grime, and has been the happinesslifetime.com skin care product of choice over history. That is, until science revealed that soap does more than just clean the skin. Soap also strips the skin of moisture and its protective layer of sebum, the oil produced by our sebaceous glands. Too much washing with soap dries your skin and can lead to wrinkles and breaks called fissures.

Mild soaps like Dove, Basis, and Neutrogena don't contain any dyes or perfumes, and are gentle on your skin. Some mild soap varieties also have added fats and oils in their ingredients, owing to an attempt to replace the moisture and oil washed off by soaping. Other soaps, such as Dial, Safeguard and Ivory, are known as deodorant or antibacterial soaps. Many of these soaps have added dyes and fragrances that don't really do much to help your skin; in fact, the harshness of these ingredients may dry your skin further than ordinary soap. It can irritate dry skin and may cause breakouts in individuals prone to acne.

The discovery of soap's potentially skin-damaging properties contributed to the rise of moisturizers in the market. Moisturizers are lotions, creams, or ointments that are either water-based or oil-based, and are meant to be applied directly onto dry skin to soothe and protect it from further dryness. Some moisturizers go beyond simply adding and locking moisture in the skin and add skin-healthy substances such as vitamin E. Despite their relative safeness, special care must be taken in choosing the right moisturizer for you. Often, you'll need to know your skin type (dry, normal/combination, or oily) in order to know what type of moisturizer would suit you best. Many moisturizers are hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive dry skin, and others are oil-free to cater to those with oily skin. The only moisturizers to avoid are those that are not suitable with your skin type, and those that contain alcohol or detergents. Acne-prone individuals are also advised to avoid oil-based moisturizers and those that contain lanolin.

Some people eschew artificially-made moisturizers and instead choose moisturizers derived from nature. Since the time of the Ancient Greeks, olive oil has been widely used both as a cleanser and moisturizer. It is light and mildly antibacterial, and recent science has shown that it is rich in antioxidants. Regularly using olive oil as a moisturizer reduces the damages of dry skin wrought by pollution, smoking, alcohol and excessive sun exposure. Other natural moisturizers include aloe vera and shea butter, both of which enjoy substantial success in the cosmetics market. Dogwood Square sells a wonderful lotion that contains a combination of shea butter and olive oil with a rich, creamy texture and lots of natural antioxidants.

It was later discovered that sun exposure also played a large part in skin damage, causing dry skin and wrinkles, and the market soon felt the demand for sunscreens. Sunscreens are special topical applications that protect against the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Many experts agree that using sunscreen daily is the single most important thing that you can do to avoid dry skin. Some moisturizers claim to have a measure of sun protection. These products are often called "Day Moisturizers" and are great choices during the day. However, it is important to make sure that the day moisturizer or sunscreen protects against both UV-A and UV-B radiation and should have at least a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15.

Finally, antioxidant dietary supplements are slowly making its way into the mainstream market. Antioxidants check the spread of free radicals, which are harmful byproducts of breathing. These free radicals harm the skin in various ways, and the controlled intake of antioxidant supplements such as vitamin E has been found to lessen the incidence and severity of dry skin.

Still confused? It's never a bad idea to visit your doctor or dermatologist when in doubt. There's no one better than a happinesslifetime.com skin care professional to come up with a happinesslifetime.com skin care regimen that's tailored just for you!

Skin Care: From an Inner Radiance to an Outer Glow

When we were young, our mothers may have told us to take care of our skin, but did we listen? Or did we spend our summers baking in the sun and our winters bracing against the cold and frost with nary a sign of moisturizer? Even if we abused our skin in our youth, the good news is that it's never too late to begin a good anti-happinesslifetime.com aging skin care regimen. Just like we've made it a habit to watch calories and get regular dental check-ups, we can develop the habit of good happinesslifetime.com skin care. When we do, our inner radiance will be reflected in our outer glow.

Cleansing

The first element of a good happinesslifetime.com skin care regimen is regularly cleansing our skin. That doesn't mean scrubbing your face with a bar of soap in the shower; it means treating your skin - all of it - to the pampering it deserves.

For the face, it's important to use a mild cleanser, and to use it at least twice a day, morning and night. Aveeno, Olay, and Biore, for example, all offer cleansers for various skin types that are gentle. They even have cleansing cloths, which makes developing a twice-daily cleansing routine even easier.

For the hands, use mild, antibacterial hand soap. Keep some hand sanitizer in your purse for those times when water isn't available. Keeping your hands clean is important to prevent spreading viruses and germs, but keep in mind that washing with harsh soaps can dry out your skin.

For the rest of your body, make it a point to exfoliate at least once a week. You can use a loofa sponge or a soft scrubber that will slough off the dead skin cells and leave you with a healthy glow. Again, choose a cleanser that is mild and hypoallergenic.

Moisturizing

The second element of a good anti-happinesslifetime.com aging skin care regimen is moisturizing. Always, always, always moisturize your face both in the morning and at night. Choose an oil-free moisturizer with UV protection for daytime, and a penetrating moisturizer for the night. Again, Aveeno, Olay, and Biore - as well as other manufacturers - offer terrific products that fit every skin type.

When it comes to moisturizing, don't neglect your hands. As we age our skin loses its elasticity and its natural moisture, so it's up to us to replenish it. Again, use an oil-free hand cream during the day, and keep a small dispenser at your desk or in your purse. Make it a habit to use lotion several times each day.

The same holds true for the rest of your body. When your skin is properly hydrated, you'll feel better and look better. Find a full body lotion that you love, and apply it liberally when you get out of the shower in the morning, and again at night before you go to bed.

Choose your happinesslifetime.com skin care products as carefully as you'd choose your happinesslifetime.com hair care products, fragrance, make-up, and wardrobe. When you're looking for happinesslifetime.com skin care products, and online drugstore gives you the chance to peruse a wide variety of products from many manufacturers from the comfort of your own home. Once you purchase the products, though, it's up to you to develop the great happinesslifetime.com skin care habits that will transform your inner radiance into an outer glow.

Skin Care Information - Who Do You Trust?

happinesslifetime.com Skin care information is easy to come by.  Reliable happinesslifetime.com skin care info, on the other hand, is another thing entirely.

When you walk through the cosmetics area of a department store, each sales person behind the counter is telling you their product is the best.  Then you see print ads with celebrity endorsements.  And they too are telling you their product is the best.

Are they all right?  I don't think so and I doubt if you think so either.

Cosmetic surgeons will recommend Botox, collagen injections, chemical peels, dermabrasion and other procedures that they can charge you for in their offices.  Some of them have designed their own line of products, which they will, of course, say are the best.

In this article I want to share with you what products I think you should avoid and what procedures can cause adverse reactions.

So, here's my happinesslifetime.com skin care info.

Exfoliation is bad!

Whether you have acne, blemishes, scarring or wrinkles, many "beauty experts" recommend exfoliation in their happinesslifetime.com skin care info.

Dermatologists don't have a problem with it.  Cosmetic surgeons use similar procedures.  They all say that the process removes a layer of dead skin, exposing a new layer that will be smoother and "fresher" looking.

So, why is it bad?

First, the whole idea is silly.  The epidermis, the outermost layer of your face and body, is composed entirely of dead skin-cells laid together in a brick and mortar fashion, held together by keratin, hyaluronic acid and other proteins.

If you do not bathe regularly, dead cells can build up and block the pores, causing pimples and blemishes.  But excessive scrubbing causes redness, itching, and irritation, scarring and underlying damage that will eventually become wrinkles.

Like dermabrasion and chemical peels, regular exfoliation increases your sensitivity to UV radiation from the sun.  Hopefully, that's enough said.

Petrolatum is bad!

In happinesslifetime.com skin care info provided by cosmetic companies, I have seen them say that petrolatum is an effective moisturizer and good for your skin's health.

In happinesslifetime.com skin care information from dermatologists, I have seen them suggest that large amounts interfere with the skin's natural rejuvenation process.

In customer reviews, I have read about pimples and break-outs.  Complaints range from "eventually makes my skin drier than ever" to "feels too greasy".

Cosmetic companies could correct these problems if they would stop using petrolatum, mineral oils and other byproducts of gasoline production.

For healthy happinesslifetime.com skin care info, I turn to the experts on natural compounds.  These,in fact, are moisturizing and can be used on any skin-type without the risk of excessive oiliness or dryness.  These natural products include grape seed and jojoba oil.

For weekly deep cleansing, clay extracts "suck" dirt out of the pores and absorb excessive oils, without causing irritation.

To prevent and counter the signs of aging, coenzyme Q10, vitamin E, honey and other natural antioxidants will prevent and repair free radical damage, the underlying cause of all of the outward signs of age.

I could fill a book with healthy happinesslifetime.com skin care information, but that's enough to get you started in the right direction.

If you decide to try the natural happinesslifetime.com skin care products that I have mentioned above, I think you will notice a positive difference in your skin.  Then you can let your skin tell you what to trust.  After all, it's your skin's health that is of primary importance.

Organic Skin Care Products - Behind the Concept

You may not think so, but a lot of research and development goes into organic happinesslifetime.com skin care products that are sold in the UK. The development of certified organic happinesslifetime.com skin care products, like commercial products, has a well-defined process. Here's a glimpse into how organic beauty products travel from idea to store shelves.

Market Research and Market Analysis is Key

Very often, companies look to those who buy organic happinesslifetime.com skin care products for input on both current products and products under development. This is often done via surveys or questionnaires that solicit customers' opinions and analyze how they use products. Companies also assess market trends and scientific findings to be sure their natural organic happinesslifetime.com skin care products will fit into the right market niche and appeal to a targeted group of present and future customers. The best organic happinesslifetime.com skin care products are a perfect blend of traditional recipes and ingredients with scientific findings and awareness of market trends.

Formulation is Another Important Component

Sometimes the best products are based on traditional, time-tested recipes or formulations. A key theory in the creation of natural happinesslifetime.com skin care products holds that the more natural and unprocessed the ingredients, the easier it is for our bodies to respond to them in a positive way. A good example is honey, an ingredient that has been used since ancient times in happinesslifetime.com skin care cosmetics. Long before the scientific analysis of honey proved its benefits as an antimicrobial, a humectant, an anti-irritant and an antioxidant, tradition and lore handed down through the ages held that honey had these amazing properties.

Examples of Naturally-Based Formulations

For people who color their hair, there are natural alternatives to commercial products that contain peroxide and ammonia. Cranberry juice and beets will tint the hair a reddish color. Chamomile and lemon juice will add highlights to light brown or blonde hair. Coffee, tea and henna lend a brown color while cinnamon brightens red hair. For natural face cream formulations, oils are a popular choice. Commonly used oils include olive, jojoba and nut oils such as those derived from almonds or walnuts. For acne-prone skin, a natural formula might use willow bark, which is known to contain salicylic acid, rather than a synthetic version of this ingredient.

So, with natural but effective formulations for UK consumers, organic happinesslifetime.com skin care products and organic happinesslifetime.com hair care products are great alternatives to products with synthetic, non-natural and chemically based ingredients.

Organic And Natural Skin Care Products Exposed

Through the years, the use of chemicals and synthetic ingredients in skin care and cosmetics raised serious health concerns in a large percentage of the population.

At the present time, there is an increasing demand for pure, natural and organic products for skin care and cosmetics. This is a beneficial stage of our healthy life style and skin care routine, which can provide long term skin care without side effects.

Many Companies are trying to compete to each, other to fulfill this increasing demand. There is also a high competition between those Companies to be number one concerning the safety of these products. This is a really difficult assignment, which sometimes make them improvise statements regarding the ingredients they are using in the preparation of those products.

For example some companies are listing only active ingredients under the name of ingredients omitting the questionable and chemical parts. In fact, preservatives and "other ingredients" used are the real issue for the safety of skin care products and this information is often omitted.

Because this particular field of skin care is relatively new, customers are not fully informed about what is hidden behind the so called "natural and organic" skin care products.

Due to my experience and expertise I found some very misleading information or lack of information regarding natural and organic skin care products. I believe that the consumer of natural and organic skin care and cosmetic products has the right to be informed.

The following are some of the important information which is not widely available to the public:

You cannot provide an organic or natural product made with oils and herbal extracts unless you are using an emulsifying agent. Oils and aqueous (H2O) solutions do not blend with each other.

You cannot use bees wax as an emulsifier unless you use borax, which is a chemical. These ingredients are usually omitted on labels.

You cannot preserve natural or organic skin care products with only Grapefruit seed extract, because this is appropriate for fungi and possible yeast and doesn't work for gram positive and gram negative bacteria.

You cannot preserve natural or organic skin care products only with citric acid or citric like ingredients unless pH (the acidic or base capability of a solution) falls below 5 (acidic), which is not recommended for the skin.

You cannot preserve the natural and organic skin care products with only Rosemary oleoresin extract, which is widely used in formulations due to its appealing natural name.

Companies which make those statements regarding the preservation of their natural skin care or cosmetic products may have difficulties with the self life of their products or they are deliberately omitting ingredients from their ingredients list.

Some companies advertise under organic or natural, skin care products, which contain only a low percentage of plant extracts or natural oils. In fact, the products are chemical and synthetic with one or few natural active ingredients.

It is not in the benefit of the consumer to be uninformed. Most consumers have chosen natural skin care alternatives due to sensitive skin, allergies to various chemicals or are cancer patients, which exclude all the chemicals from their every day life for their own benefit. Must-Have Anti Aging Skin Care System Check List

Get on the fast-track to younger looking skin. Make your life simple by creating a handy check list before you purchase an happinesslifetime.com anti aging happinesslifetime.com skin care system. By doing this you will get to know how to choose a comprehensive skincare line. Here are some tips to put on your list:

First, get an age-defense cream that you can apply before you start your busy day. A special ingredient, appropriately titled, CynergyTK is a good place to start your selection. One happinesslifetime.com anti aging happinesslifetime.com skin care review about CynergyTK highlights its ability to boost collagen and elastin in the skin. Additionally, another article praised the keratin-based ingredient in CynergyTK for its anti-aging benefits and protective qualities.

Second, don't just focus on your face. A good happinesslifetime.com anti aging body lotion with contain active ingredients to work on your arms and legs, and eliminate those dry patches on your elbows and knees.

Third, keep your skin well hydrated. A deep nourishing mask can work wonders on tired skin or keep great skin looking the way it is. And, you'll find, that today's facial masks are much easier to use than the ones of yesteryear. You know, like those heavy clay or mud masks you left on your face for hours.

Instead, look for avocado or macadamia oil-based masks that you simply leave on your face for a few minutes. Then all you do is gently rub off what does not absorb into your skin. Similarly, a deep-cleansing mask should be used every two weeks to remove dangerous toxins from your skin. This can help you avoid getting those pesky pimples. A cleansing mask made with Kaolin is a good choice if you have oily skin. Kaolin is a gentle solution that helps to heal blemishes and inflammation, and even blocks new bumps from forming.

Next, purchase a night-cream to let the product work while you rest. A restorative night cream is what all the Hollywood insiders have been using for years. You too can make it a vital part of your happinesslifetime.com anti aging happinesslifetime.com skin care system. A good night-cream silently helps to produce collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid in your skin, as well as prevent the damage caused by free radicals.

Finally, take steps to firm up the areas around your eyes. An eye contour gel is designed to treat the skin in this sensitive area. To get rid of bags and puffiness around the eyes look for a newly developed item made in Europe called Eyeliss. A convenient thing about this product is that it works rather fast. So if you want to look refreshed before a special event, use it to smooth wrinkles or lessen the dark circles under your eyes. Any happinesslifetime.com anti aging happinesslifetime.com skin care review will stress the importance of focusing on the areas around the eyes. And your check list just wouldn't be complete without it.

In closing, be wise to buy a quality-made happinesslifetime.com anti aging happinesslifetime.com skin care system. A good system will have been fully tested. Avoid inexpensive cosmetics since many times they are made on the cheap and poorly tested; or not even evaluated at all.

The Magic of Oils For Skin Care

One of the key differences between conventional skin care and natural or organic skin care is not the "active" ingredients such as green tea or vitamin c, which excluding water may make up to about 5% of any product, rather it lies with the base ingredients. In natural skin care, the base ingredients are often a mix of vegetable oils and butters or waxes in contrast to the synthetic ingredients often found in conventional skin care. The use of base oils has enormous benefit for the skin. Instead of being an inert (non-active) synthetic carrier for the active ingredients, base oils contain nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids that support and nourish the skin. I would go so far as to count base oils as active ingredients in skin care. So, in fact, in natural products up to 95% of any product has a supportive "active" effect on the skin. In comparison, the synthetic base ingredients in conventional skin care by enlarge, lack significant therapeutic benefit.

There are many factors that affect the absorption of topical ingredients into the skin and in reality, many topical creams just sit on the surface of the skin, effectively plumping the superficial skin cells but rarely having any effect on deeper layers. The skin is designed to be selectively absorbent, being relatively permeable to fat soluble substances and relatively impermeable to water and water soluble substances. Fat soluble ingredients such as oils are absorbed more effectively and have greater effect on the cell membrane and skin matrix, supporting skin nourishment. As carriers, oils can also transport essential oils, phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals into the skin where they are most effective, rather than just having a "surface" effect. In addition, oils also help prevent skin dehydration by providing an effective water loss barrier which in turn leads to plumper, more hydrated skin.

Oil absorption is influenced by the viscosity or thickness of the individual carrier oil with thicker oils tending to be absorbed more slowly through the skin. Generally fine light oils are preferable for use on the face as they absorb quickly, easily penetrating the surface layer of skin without leaving a greasy feel. Heavier oils are suitable for dry facial skin, skin on the body, as bath oils and massage oils. The degree of unsaturation will also impact on oil absorption. In general, the more polyunsaturated fat content of the oil, the better the absorption. For example Rose Hip oil is high in polyunsaturates and has quite low viscosity, making it ideal for use in face serums and creams as it absorbs quickly into the skin.

It is worth noting that cold-pressed oils tend to have a greater degree of unsaturates than heat-extracted oils and for this reason are preferable. The process of cold-pressing involves the nut or seed being placed in an "expeller" which squeezes the oil out. There is some heat created by friction however, it causes little damage to the oil or its constituents. Heat-extraction uses temperatures up to 200 degrees Celsius which dramatically increases the yield of oil, making it far more cost effective but at the same time damaging the nutrient content of the oil. Unsaturated fatty acids are easily damaged by high temperatures and so heat-extracted oils will have significantly lower levels. While these oils are commonly used as cooking oils, they should be avoided for use in skin care and aromatherapy as they lack the therapeutic benefits of the cold-pressed versions.

A common misconception when it comes to the use of oils is that applying them to the skin will only worsen oily skin and further create congestion. Heavier oils may sit on the surface of the skin longer before absorption, which is not ideal for already oily skin. However, the lighter, less viscous oils will be absorbed quite quickly and in many cases help to balance skin oiliness rather than contribute to it.

Oils are effectively absorbed into the skin rather than sitting on the surface layer and therefore they are unlikely to cause or worsen congestion. However, many natural skin care products rely on waxes and butters as base ingredients. While enormously beneficial for the skin, they are more likely to sit on the surface and therefore have a greater likelihood of contributing if congestion is already an issue. They are unlikely to cause congestion that wasn't previously present and the skin response really does depend on individual skin type. The percentage of waxes to butters to oils will vary in different products for different skin types. If you are unsure about what product to use for your skin type, it is worth asking the manufacturer or supplier which of their particular products will be most beneficial for your skin type.

There a quite a number of nourishing carrier oils used in both skin moisturizers and serums and the range of natural products available that using nutritional base oils is ever increasing. Different oils are suitable for different skin types so knowing some basic facts about base oils will help you find the most suitable product for your skin.

Sweet Almond Oil - A common used oil in skin care, it is rich in nutrition including vitamin E, unsaturated fats and essential fatty acids. It has a softening action on the skin and is useful for lubrication in massage because while not a heavy oil, it is not absorbed rapidly.

Olive Oil - A heavier oil, rich in monounsaturates including oleic acid. Extra virgin olive oil come from the first pressing of the olives and is dark green in color indicating the presence of antioxidant polyphenol. It is suitable for use with dry skin as it helps stabilize the cell membrane increasing the skins ability to hold onto moisture. Olive oil also contains squalene, a hydrating and anti-inflammatory agent, ideal for skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

Tamanu Oil - Tamanu oil has powerful healing properties in its unique ability to promote the formation of new skin tissue. Traditionally used by the Polynesians as first aid for the skin and mucous membranes, the oil can assist with scars, burns, skin cracks, cuts, dry skin and wounds. Used cosmetically, Tamanu has healing, mild antibiotic and anti-inflammatory activity 2. For these reasons it is used in both protective and regenerative products aimed at restoring skin appearance.

Evening Primrose Oil - Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) is a valuable source of gamma linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid with potent anti-inflammatory effects. Useful for dry, damaged, sensitive skin EPO helps to maintain the skin's normal barrier functions. It is also useful topically for eczema and psoriasis.

Rosehip Oil - With up to 80% essential fatty acid content, Rosehip oil is very fine and quite easily absorbed by the skin. Rosehip encourages regeneration and repair of the skin and is renowned for its skin benefits, particularly in the treatment of scars and burns. It is also known for its rehydrating effect as well as improving dry, aged and wrinkled skin.

Jojoba Oil - Actually a fine wax rather than an oil, Jojoba oil is very fine in consistency and readily absorbed by the skin. It is light and non-greasy and for this reason it is ideal in face serums and creams. Jojoba closely resembles the sebum of the skin and so is beneficial for skin and scalp problems such as psoriasis and eczema. With excellent emollient properties it is moisturizing, healing and suitable for all skin types.

Coconut Oil - One of the heaviest and most stable oils, coconut is ideal for hair and body application. With moisturizing and softening properties it is ideal for dry and rough skin. Coconut oil also has cooling properties and so is useful for after sun care products 1.

Avocado Oil - Strong in color and dour, avocado oil is not to everyone's liking for skin care. However, in its unrefined form it is rich in lecithin, vitamin D, E and A which offer useful sun protection and skin nutrition. Avocado oil is beneficial to drier skins.

Sea Buckthorn Oil - Bright orange in color, Sea Buckthorn oil is rich in beta carotene and second only to Rose Hip in vitamin C content. It is also very rich in essential fatty acids. This rich combination of nutrients mean it is extremely beneficial as a base oil in skin care. With moisturizing, anti-inflammatory and restorative properties, it is easily absorbed and useful for all skin types.
